THE LEFT IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT JOE WILSON

Sarcasm, thy name is Rick Moran.

IT'S PAST TIME TO INOCULATE CONSERVATISM AGAINST THE BIRTHERS

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Rick.

Then again, I have to, don't I? Otherwise, I'll get banned from commenting here.

Not exactly. You can disagree with me tactically on the best way to marginalize Birthers. But even those who "just want to ask a simple question" about Obama's birth certificate gets tossed.

ed.

IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE

Well, I'm all for determination in achieving one's goals, but I certainly wouldn't use Yockey as a shining example. Who the hell is she to go nuclear over getting David Letterman fired? Last time I checked, it was Palin who was the butt of the joke and she's accepted Letterman's apology. Anyone now continuing to pursue Letterman is NOT doing it for Palin, nor conservative principles. Yockey's "determination" is about as admirable as the giddy loud-mouth who cheers on a bar fight.

OH FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP IT

"Taking a dump into a water well just to hear the turds echo when they hit bottom is a pastime for village idiots..."

Best. Line. Ever.

WHELAN APOLOGY LEAVES QUESTIONS UNANSWERED ABOUT BLOG COMMENTERS

Very well said, Rick. And in that spirit, I would like to announce that my real name is not Ryan Garns... but is, in fact, Connie Chung.

IS THE GOP ANTI-SCIENCE? OR JUST ANTI-RATIONALIST?

@Mark

In answer to your question, no, I don't think we should allow the federal government to control the minutia of our daily lives based on a fuzzy global warming theory -- even if some of the ideas have merit.

By the same logic, religion has some good ideas, too -- but without proof of God's existence, I don't want the government forcing it upon everyone.

While I can appreciate your wanting to rid the conservative party of knee-jerk reactionaries, Rick, I must say you're off-base with regards to global warming. Liberals are overwhelmingly guilty of using global warming as an ideological litmus test and launchpad for demagoguery. It's not even a close contest.

Do some conservatives have ridiculous views on global warming? Sure. But anyone with an appreciation for science who has honestly and objectively studied the liberal argument would have to consider the conservatives the least of their worries.

The Beckian Wing of Conservatism

To me, the bigger concern here is that we're becoming a culture of reactionaries rather than a culture of ideas. Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, etc. are merely manipulating this trend rather than trying to transform it into something more thoughtful. To say that the message matters more than the presentation is wrong -- try yelling at your spouse with childish namecalling the next time you have a disagreement and see if he/she appreciates your "message".

Also, I just want to say that I stumbled across this blog about a week ago and enjoy Rick's writing style greatly. It's refreshing to see an actual essayist on the internet in this age of "give it to me in 25 words or less so I can comment and move on" online punditry. Keep it up!
